Mooting

Mooting is the oral presentation of a legal issue or problem against an opposing counsel and before a judge. Mooting is the closest experience that a university student can have appearing in court submitting legal arguments as either appellant or respondent. Along with improving advocacy, mooting helps build confidence in public speaking, general legal research and presentation skills. The Mooting Society runs training workshops for interested students to prepare them for our two annual internal mooting competitions, along with the opportunity to represent Dundee University in external competitions throughout the UK. UDMS also runs a number of social events throughout the year along with organising speaker events from advocates and barristers throughout the country.
