Every year DUSA organises the Student Led Teaching Awards to recognize hard work and quality learning contributed by each individual involved in the mission. The Student Led Teaching Awards is an opportunity to celebrate the achievement of the academic and non-academic staff who go beyond the ordinary, to give you an awesome and far-reaching student experience.
This year’s SLTA night was celebrated on 19th April 2024 at Bonar Hall. The event was hosted by Vice President of Academia Mubarak Babalola, the DUSA Executive and School Presidents in the presence of Professor Blair Grubb, shortlisted staff members and the DUSA Advice and Support team.
There were 10 award categories and 10 amazing winners in different categories. Here is a list of the winners –
Accessible Education Award – Sharon Tonner-Saunders, Lecturer in Education Studies
Best Advisor – Dr Anne Keitel, Reader in Cognitive Neuroscience
Most Innovative and Inspirational Teaching Award – Dr Sourav Banerjee, UKRI Future Leaders Fellow; Principal Investigator, School of Medicine.
“Not every day do you get the privilege of being selected as the most innovative and inspirational teacher award for 2023-24 for the whole University, that too nominated, shortlisted and awarded by the students! Thank you DUSA for acknowledging the hard work put in by us, absolutely humbled. Research is a passion but teaching is an honour!” – Sourav Banerjee
Best Assessment Feedback – Dr Jacques Hartmann, Professor in Law
Best Postgrad Supervisor – Dr Scheila Manica, Clinical Senior Lecturer
Commitment to Employability – Nicola Tully, Lecturer in Law
The Student Choice Award – Anya Farnan, Global Room Coordinator
“I was very grateful to have been nominated and excited (also very emotional) when I won! I would like to thank the person or people who nominated me and just to let them know that hopefully, a wee chat with me helps them in some way during their time at the University of Dundee. Having students come to visit the Global room and share their news with us makes my day sometimes and makes me laugh often. I hope people continue to use the space and encourage those who haven’t visited before to come see us.” – Anya Farnan
Course of the Year – Yvonne Evans, Senior Lecturer in Law
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion – Dr Aliki Varvogli, Senior Lecturer in English Literature
Outstanding Wellbeing – Martyn Cunningham
