While students step into their university life, it is imperative to ensure students’ well-being is a priority in our mission towards a kinder campus. To lead the mission, we have Bernard Aihebva joining us this year, he holds a Bachelor of Science in Computing Science from the University of Dundee.
As the Vice President of Student Well-Being within the DUSA executive team, Bernard is on a mission to transform student life and create an environment where well-being is taken seriously.
Bernard’s vision
Bernard is concerned with everything that surrounds students’ well-being. He aims to support students in all aspects that might impair their university experience, helping with issues concerning mental, physical and sexual health. He wants to raise awareness of the different services DUSA offers, signposting students to the relevant resources they may require while they study at the university.
He recognises that the journey through university can be a bit overwhelming when you have to juggle the demands of academics and personal life. That’s why, as Vice President of Student Well-Being, Bernard is dedicated to reshaping the university experience into one that fosters not just academic growth, but also holistic well-being.
Creating a culture of well-being
Bernard believes that academic excellence and personal well-being are not mutually exclusive, but rather interconnected aspects of a fulfilling university journey. Bernard encourages his fellow students and friends to find a balance between their studies and moments of relaxation and fun.
He wants to focus on giving support through the ongoing cost of living stress and come up with campaigns spreading awareness around men’s mental health, and the stigmas attached to it. He wants to promote a culture where students feel empowered to prioritise their mental, emotional, and physical health.
Joining the movement
Bernard wants to create an environment where students’ well-being is taken *seriously*, therefore making it easier for students to focus on their studies. He is a strong supporter of the work hard, play hard mindset believing students should have fun and make friends while studying at the university.
Bernard’s role as DUSA’s Vice President of Student Well-Being is a call to action—an invitation to every student to embrace a life of purpose and personal growth. So, whether you’re a student looking for a supportive community or a staff member who believes in the power of community and well-being, join Bernard’s movement.
Together, we can create a university environment where students thrive, succeed, and find joy in every step of their journey. You can get in touch with Bernard at vpsw@dusa.co.uk
