With the semester fast approaching, I just wanted to touch base with you and let you know about all the work DUSA and the university are doing in preparation for the coming year! With government guidance still changing quite frequently, we are all working incredibly hard to ensure you have the best experience possible, with health and safety at the forefront of everything we are doing.
The university, along with alumni, have boosted the amount of funding available through the Student Funding Unit (firstname.lastname@example.org), meaning more students can receive financial support if they’re facing hardship. Alongside that, a large amount of money has been set up to help fund students who need access to technology to help them study in this new format. Training is now available to help staff and students get used to/make the most out of MyDundee and the other platforms in use, which is long overdue.
On the other hand, DUSA is also incredibly busy. Our events team is working on a socially-distanced Freshers Week, and figuring out how we can give everyone the opportunity to have fun, meet new people, and be safe in the process. More importantly, your DUSA Executive/Support Team are also hard at work, planning campaigns based on your needs, arranging a lot of support for societies, and most importantly, working with the university to make sure your voice is heard.
We have lobbied the university on a number of key issues, and won, including a procedure so students don’t need to provide evidence if they aren’t able to learn on campus. As well as a commitment that 2020 Graduates will be invited back at a later date for an in-person ceremony. We’re feeding into a large number of university meetings to make sure your voice is heard and demanding that there is fair and easy access to the library, to make sure that coming onto campus is actually worthwhile, and to make sure that students are at the heart of every university decision.
However, we know there is more to be done. We are aware of the financial issues caused by the postponement of the semester start date and we are aware that 2020 Graduates still haven’t received their diplomas. DUSA is lobbying the university on a daily basis to ensure that these, and other issues are resolved as quickly as possible.
We are also pushing for more transparency around the major decisions that will affect you and your learning experience, so you hear about them sooner. The university is a large organisation, so this is proving difficult, but we are working to ensure this is the case.
DUSA is here to support you, so please contact our free, confidential advice service at email@example.com, if you would like to discuss any issues around housing, academia or welfare. We want to know where DUSA and the university can do better in all aspects of your student experience, so we can improve and champion the things that are important to you, so please let us know. We’re here for you.
