Freshers’ Week 2018 – Floor 5 – Day 7 – Shikari Sound System
September 7 - 10:00 pm - 3:00 am
Some of modern metal’s best young talents are swapping their axes for drum machines when they play Floor 5 this Freshers’. Shikari Sound System will be tearing the roof off of DUSA and sending rockers to a whole new realm of metal.
As Enter Shikari, the band have achieved massive success, with their track ‘Mothership,’ immediately becoming iTunes single of the week upon its arrival on the platform. Enter Shikari became only the second unsigned band to sell out the London Astoria (after The Darkness), and were ordained as NME’s “New Noise 2007”, joining the likes of Bloc Party and Arcade Fire in the magazine’s estimation of bands with the most potential.
Away from their ‘day job’ of Enter Shikari, the band have forged success as a separate act with their electronic alter ego of Shikari Sound System. Officially created prior to Enter Shikari headlining Reading and Leeds festivals in 2013, they’ve mixed live on BBC Radio One’s Rock Show with Daniel P. Carter, and performed at many huge events, including Slam Dunk Festival 2016. They bring their own unique take on everything from Slipknot and Rolo Tomassi to the two-tone bops of Madness; there really is no limit to what these guys are willing to turn into a mosh-worthy banger. Their musical diversity is something that must be heard to be believed; both Shikari Sound System and Enter Shikari exhibit perfectly just how diverse a single genre, and a single musical collective, can be.
Having last played DUSA during 2016’s Refreshers’ week and with their longest ever UK tour lined up for December, the lads are due a return to Dundee’s premier heavy hosts at Distorted. Luckily for us, they’re also arriving on top form after Enter Shikari’s fifth studio album, The Spark, won best album at the acclaimed Kerrang! Music Awards. Trust us, this is an intimate show with a huge act that you really don’t want to miss!
