DUSA has become a registered Keep Safe Place.
Keep Safe is an award-winning scheme introduced in response to feedback from the disabled community that there were times they did not feel safe when travelling independently.
The initiative is a partnership between I Am Me Scotland and Police Scotland and was originally developed to support disabled people to participate in community life, free from fear of harassment and abuse.
The Scheme has evolved into a national network of over 800 Keep Safe spaces throughout Scotland.
Users can look up their closest ‘space’ and can use the place if they feel lost, scared or simply need breathing space.
Lucy Marshall, Advice & Support Coordinator with DUSA, said,
“We are delighted to join the Keep Safe programme. It’s phenomenal to see such a meaningful project being rolled out and one that DUSA is proud to be part of. The number of sites registered is testament to the spirit within our communities and people’s willingness to help others.
‘‘By becoming a Keep Safe venue we can make a big difference to someone’s life by providing that safe space if and when it’s needed, and I encourage anyone thinking about becoming involved to do so.’’
