EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT ELECTIONS


 

 

European Parliament Elections will take place across the European Union between June 4th and June 7th 2009. In the UK the elections will take place on the 4th of June.

In Britain, Members of the European Parliament (MEP’s) are elected by a system of proportional representation, Britain has 72 elected MEP’s with Scotland electing 6 of them.

All British, Commonwealth or EU citizens can vote in the elections. If you are not registered to vote or you would like to clarify your status then please visit http://www.aboutmyvote.co.uk. The closing date for registration for this election is May 19th 2009. Once you are registered to vote you can vote in all national and devolved elections. If you are registered to vote outside Dundee then there is no need to re- register, you can either contact the City Council to let them know about a change in circumstance or you can vote via a postal vote.

European Elections have a traditionally low turnout, having hit an all time low of 24% in 1999.
