university court

what it means to you:

The future of your course, the buildings that you use, the amount of lecturers on campus, every aspect of your student life - including the amount of money your student association receives - are all decided by University Court. It is as simple as that. Court makes the decisions so we need to make our voices heard at this level.

the student voice on court

Currently the DUSA President, Rector and Rector’s Assessor represent students at Court. However, this year we have made a slight alteration. Added to those that currently sit on Court will be a second student, and for this year alone it will the DUSA Deputy President. The Rector’s Assessor will lose his ability to vote in favour of our second student voice.

We believe this is an incredibly positive move. The more student voices we can have on Court, the stronger our hand will be when it comes to fighting for what is best for students.

At the next DUSA Executive elections there will be a new position - Independent Representative to Court. We believe this is an important role, and that someone who can be completely independent of DUSA is best placed to be the second voice on Court. The DUSA Executive try hard to gauge accurately the views of students, however someone independent can perhaps come at issues from a different stance point. They will also be able to be critical of DUSA, which will add extra scrutiny, transparency and accountability to your student association.

your view matters

In the past the President has had to judge the views of students from little evidence. When issues have arisen at Court which impact upon students, the President has had to make a judgement call. This year we want to make sure that your voice is correctly articulated.

If you have a view on any issue on campus from the strategic review to library opening hours, let us know and we will make sure we raise the issue.

Email the President at: president@dusa.co.uk

We will also keep you updated on what is going on at Court via this website and emails to all students.
