What We Do

The Sports’ Union is a student elected executive, with one sabbatical and 6 non-sabbaticals. The Sports’ Union give support to the university’s 40 Sports clubs and work in partnership with the ISE to deliver Dundee University Sport, the best possible experience for students through Campus, Team or club sport.
As President, Sophie has dedicated a year to running your Sports’ Union. She works full time from the Sports’ Union office in the ISE, and the door is always open so feel free to pop in and see her if you have any questions about sport in Dundee.

Sophie Warburton, President

Sophie works full time in the Sports’ Union office in the ISE to help and support the university’s 40 sports clubs. She also works in partnership with the ISE to deliver Dundee University Sport, through the Club, Team and Campus streams. Sophie also works to develop and expand sport and the opportunities for sport within the university. If you have any questions about sport in Dundee, pop into the office and chat to Sophie, her door is always open.

Matt McAfee, Vice-President Sport

The Vice Presidents support the President and you can call on them in Sophie’s absence. Matt’s main responsibilities are to organise events within the University that encourage participation throughout all sports, such as Give It A Go Day. He is also in charge of organising Varsity, where Dundee will fight it out with Abertay to defend the Tay Games Trophy.  

Dom Szabo, Vice-President Events

Dom is the Social organiser of the Sports’ Union. He is in charge of organising the biggest social events in the Sports’ Union calendar, the Sports Union Dinner in November and the Blues and Colours Awards and Ball in March. Dom is also there to provide support to the President. He will work with Matt to ensure the Sports’ Union runs smoothly in the case of Sophie being absent.  

Fiona Black, Honorary Secretary

Fiona’s job is to work with the Sports’ Union Administrator to keep a record of proceedings of Council, Executive, and Dundee University Sport Management Group meetings. She is also around to make sure the rest of us are doing are jobs correctly and to help whenever needed.

Emma Lorimer, Campus Sport Officer

Emma is responsible for the Campus sport stream of Dundee University Sport. She organises and runs all the events including the racquet ladders and the one off events such as volleyball, basketball, touch rugby and Waterpolo.

Abdullah Mahmood, Communications Officer

Abdullah’s job is to help maintain our website. He will be inputting the fixtures and events into the calendar. He will also upload articles and match reports during the year.  Abdullah will work along side the President to update social media channels such as facebook, twitter and youtube. 

Ian Higson, Transport Officer

Ian looks after the Sports’ Union fleet of minibuses and the MPV. He makes sure they are all working order ready for clubs to get to matches, races or whatever else they’re up to!

Piper, Mascot

Piper is a former South Pole international ice hockey player and has competed in fishing at a world championship level. He has tried his hand at glacier bowling and curling and obviously he loves to ski. Piper came to Dundee on the Discovery and now spends all his time sleeping, eating fish and supporting Dundee Uni in all its sporting challenges!!! GO DUNDEE!!
