Only Fun In Town

Friday 5th March | 11pm - 2.30am
Floor 5 | Admission £3

'The Only Fun On Tape is an ambitious crossover between clubnight and social experiment' says club promoter David McLeish (Felt, The Only Fun In Town).

The premise is simple - a person expresses a desire to be involved through the Facebook group by opting to attend the event, a single audiocassette is then sent to a randomly chosen attendee who adds a song of their choosing and sends it on to another attendee to do the same.
This continues until the C90 is full to the brim, at which point it is returned to The Only Fun In Town.

The completed tape will form the first hour of the next clubnight's playlist.

'It's a great way to meet people, hear new music and, for the egotistical bedroom DJ in you, fill (or clear) the dancefloor of a popular indie clubnight. It's a extroversion for the introverted.' Says David

'Hopefully, if this project proves to be a success it will become a regular feature, and perhaps the tapes will become themed'
'
The A-side might be "love", the B-side might be "loss" for example.'

The whole playlist is chronicled online, and people can add liner notes detailing who they are, their choice and what it means to them.

Distorted
Fri 19th March| 11pm - 2.30am
FLOOR 5 | £3

Love a night out at the Union, but feel the irritatingly-catchy pop-princessy tunes and dodgy R&B floor-fillers that pervade the charts at the moment just aren’t doing it for you? Always wanted to give Floor 5 a try, but are put off by musical memories of school days past? Then Friday 22nd’s Distorted, part of this year’s Refreshers’ Week agenda, is not to be missed. Billed as a club night that plays almost anything categorised as ‘rock’, fans of the alternative and metal variety will no doubt be in their element. Die-hard fans of the genre, whether it be Glam, Grunge, or Progressive, may recognise Distorted as a regular feature of the Union line-up, playing every fourth Friday on Floor 5, and begun by a group of Dundee University’s very own students who wanted to hear more of ‘their kind of music’ played at the Union. For those who have not yet ventured into the realms of rock however, expect to recognise tracks from all eras and all styles of rock, from classic Led Zep and the Rolling Stones to the more contemporary Arctic Monkeys and Linkin Park.  Enjoy some legendary tunes while relaxing with a beer, or get up on the dancefloor and mosh your heart out – it’s entirely up to you! And if it’s not usually your thing, why not give it go - surely everyone loves a good guitar solo?! What’s more, in true Union style, entry is only £3! You never know, it might become your new favourite night at the Union!
